Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 has been official EU law since August 1, 2024. The regulation is therefore binding legislation for all member states.

February 2025

Ban on Certain AI Practices Takes Effect

Article 5 (Prohibited AI Systems) becomes enforceable. National market surveillance authorities may now take their first enforcement actions.

August 2026

Obligations for high-risk AI systems.

Articles 6-15 (requirements for high-risk AI) become fully applicable. Compliance is mandatory. Fines of up to €35 million or 7% of annual turnover may be imposed.
